Comparing speeds in different units
To convert metres per second to kilometres per hour, multiply by 3.6. One hour contains 3600 seconds and one kilometre contains 1000 metres, so the conversion factor is 3600 ÷ 1000.
6 m/s = 6 × 3.6 = 21.6 km/h. To convert in the opposite direction, divide by 3.6. For example, 36 km/h = 10 m/s.
A 90 km journey taking 2 hours has average speed 45 km/h. Before comparing two speeds, convert them to the same units.
